“Nobody knows a neighborhood like the people who live in it.”

You know that friend who always knows where to go, what to order, and which neighborhoods are actually worth exploring? Host City Guide™ is that friend — except behind us is an entire community of Houstonians who live in these neighborhoods, love these businesses, and want to make sure you experience every part of Houston.
We pulled together the city's most trusted locals, influencers, and community insiders to build the interactive guide we always wished existed.
Consider this your inside connection to Houston.

@HoustonHotSpots

Hi, I am Marissa Fiala, most people know me as @houstonhotspots. I am originally from Dallas, where I spent my free time outside of a career in accounting immersing myself in the blogging world — covering local restaurants, businesses, and events. When I moved to Houston in 2017, I never looked back. What started as a passion for sharing dining experiences has grown into a full operation — today Houston Hotspots has a dedicated team, 585,000 followers on Instagram alone, and a separate events platform at @houstonhotevents built entirely around curating and hosting experiences that bring the Houston community together. My content covers food, things to do, and Texas travel — but what I am most passionate about is showing people that Houston rewards the ones who actually explore it. There is always a new opening, a hidden gem, a community you had no idea existed right here in this city. I built Houston Hotspots to be the guide I wished I had when I first arrived — honest, specific, and always worth your time. If I put it on the page, it earned its place there.

@HoustonsGotSpice

Hi, I’m Christina Autry, also known as @houstonsgotspice. I was born in Houston, bounced between here and New Orleans, and eventually made Houston my permanent home. My passion for Houston food started with a group of friends who love international cultures & cuisines, and who were involved with refugee work in Houston. Exploring the city with them made me realize that Houston had one of the most extraordinary culinary landscapes in the country, and not enough people knew about it. So in 2018 I created @houstonsgotspice while teaching in HISD full time. My focus became restaurants, cultural experiences, and anything in Houston I think more people should know about. What I want most is for people to step outside their usual bubble and have an unexpectedly great experience that makes them want to keep exploring. Houston has absolutely spoiled me with how much diversity and culture we have here. People outside this city think the food scene stops at BBQ and Tex-Mex, and I’ve made it my mission to prove them wrong, one post at a time.

@SearchingHighwithLo

Hi, I am Lauren Washington, my friends call me Lo, and online you can find me at @SearchingHighwithLo. I am originally from Atlanta, but Houston has been home for the past ten years and honestly I cannot imagine being anywhere else. I started my page in 2021 — my daughter had just turned one, the world was still in the middle of COVID, and I needed a creative outlet. My husband and I had never stopped exploring the city even through all of it, so I decided to put myself out there and turn that love for discovery into something that could help other people do the same. Five years later I cover food, nightlife, lifestyle, and family — but what I am most passionate about is neighborhood staples, hidden gems, and shining a light on small businesses, especially Black-owned ones, that deserve so much more attention than they get. Houston is rich in culture, food, beauty, and things to do — there is literally something for everyone and always somewhere new to explore. People from outside the city think Houston is just a party scene without much diversity, and I have made it my mission to change that one post at a time. I fell in love with this city the moment I got here. My page exists so that everyone who follows me can do exactly the same.

@ShawntheFoodSheep

Hi, I am Shawn Singh, most people know me as @ShawntheFoodSheep. I was born in Downtown Houston, raised between the Heights and Cypress, and no matter where life has taken me, Houston has always been the city I keep coming back to. I started sharing content pretty organically — I was already eating out constantly, people kept asking me for recommendations, and at some point I realized I might as well document it and share it publicly. Now I cover hundreds of restaurants, over 70 coffee shops, and everything worth knowing about across this city. My focus is food, but it naturally expands into events, lifestyle, and all the unique things happening around Houston that most people miss. I mix high-end critically acclaimed spots with everyday neighborhood places and new openings — because that range is what actually reflects how people eat here. What I want most is for people to feel confident that if I recommend something, it is worth their time and money. No gatekeeping, just good spots. Houston rewards curiosity — it does not hand everything to you upfront, but if you are willing to explore, you will find some of the best food, most diverse communities, and most interesting people in the country. That is the Houston I show up to share every single day.

@TexasEatsFirst

Hi, I am Maya Takano, your Texas weekend concierge, better known online as @texaseatsfirst. I started my page with a simple philosophy: phone eats first. Before social media, I was already that person at the table taking photos of every dish before anyone could touch it. After finishing graduate school and suddenly finding myself without a deadline to chase, I combined my love of great restaurants, bars, and experiences with my love of social media — and @texaseatsfirst was born. With over 371,000 followers across Houston, Dallas, Austin, and beyond, I cover the most Instagrammable, visually stunning, and genuinely worth-your-time spots across Texas. My content is food-first and highly visual — the kind that makes you stop scrolling and immediately want to make a reservation. I am not just sharing where to eat. I am showing you what Texas looks like when it is at its absolute best.

@TheHoustonFoodie

Hi, I am Adrian Verde, known online as @thehoustonfoodie. I am a Filipino-American Houstonian with a deep passion for this city's food scene and an even deeper commitment to sharing it honestly. What started as a love for eating out and discovering new spots quickly turned into something much bigger — today I run @thehoustonfoodie while also overseeing social media marketing for 15 Houston restaurants and food trucks through my agency @socialhivemarketing. I spend my days immersed in Houston's culinary world from every angle — as a creator, a strategist, and a genuine food lover. My focus is Houston's diverse food scene in all its depth — from neighborhood staples that have been feeding communities for decades to new openings worth knowing about. What matters most to me is credibility. If I am recommending places everyone agrees are terrible, I would not have been doing this for very long. Trust is everything — and I have spent years building it, one honest recommendation at a time.

Hi, I am Valeria Charrabe, known online as @valeriacharrabe. I am a Houston-based lifestyle and family content creator, and for the past four years this city has given me endless reasons to keep exploring. I started sharing because I genuinely loved discovering new places with my family — and that has never changed. Houston's diversity is what I fell in love with, and as a proud Latina I feel a deep connection to the Latino community here and a real passion for making sure our culture, our businesses, and our stories are represented. My content covers family fun, food, and events — from hidden gems to new spots worth knowing about — and I share all of it in both English and Spanish because Houston's story belongs to everyone. What I want most is for the people who follow me to feel excited and confident getting out there and exploring this city. Outsiders always underestimate how vibrant and diverse Houston truly is. I make it my job to show them exactly what they are missing.

Southwest District

The most diverse ten square miles in America. If Houston is one of the most international cities in the U.S., the Southwest District is where that claim gets made real. Over 126 languages spoken inside its boundaries. Six distinct zones, each with its own flavor, its own food court, its own reason to come back. A population that reflects Latin America, East Asia, South Asia, West Africa, the Middle East, and the Caribbean — sometimes on the same block. You can leave Houston without ever leaving Houston. That's the district in one sentence. Most visitors stick to one Chinatown trip and call it a day. We're asking you to stay longer. There's a version of the world tucked into the Southwest District that you genuinely can't find anywhere else in America, and the locals here have been inviting you for decades. You just had to know where to look.
